The Actiontec router has very bad coverage in my home. I would like to add an old Zonet ZS4154WE router I have to extend the coverage. I don't have a clue how to do this. Can I just plug the new router into one of the LAN ports with an ethernet cable? or do I have to change settings on the routers, which I find very confusing?

Please help

You could just plug it in but you get best results from telling the device what you want them to do.

You want to run the second router as a AP..instruction all over the place including a sticky on this forum.

Then you still must choose how you are going to use the AP. You could run a long ethernet cable between the actiontec and the zonet and place it in the part of the house with poor coverage. You would then use the radios on both device and your end devices would connect to the closer/stronger radio. Your other option if you just want to use the zonet radios instead is to place it next to the actiontec and then go into the actiontec and disable the radios. There is no sense running both radios when the devices sit next to each other they will interfere.

I suspect you will get best results running a long cable and using both devices at the same time if that is a possibility.

Thank you. I appreciate your answer. Do you know of simple instruction (baby talk) to accomplish the 2 routers connected in different locations with an ethernet cable?

It is just a cable between the lan ports. If you want detailed instruction there are a bunch of youtube videos on this topic. It is actually extremely simple.
