I just bought a new GPU (ASUS GeForce GTX 970 STRIX DC2OC) and was considering upgrading my monitor to a 120hz one to get the most out of the new performance.
My question is, is 120 worth it? and if so which monitor should i go for? My budget (given that I just bought a new GPU) is about 200ish pounds since i just dropped a good deal on the card. I could possibly extend my budget a bit higher if it is really worth paying the extra amount. On that note, given my budget of about 200, is buying a monitor even worth it? Will i be able to get something worthwhile for that amount?

I'd go with the Asus. The screens are close to identical in specs and both are reputable brands, so why not save some money :)

The BenQ's will be easier to calibrate I think, if only because nothing can be worse than the Asus' presets. I don't feel that that's worth an extra 63 pounds though. Once you get the Asus calibrated it looks just as good.

You can get an Asus VG248QE for that money easily. It's 144Hz and Nvidia 3D Ready. It's a TN screen, like all 60Hz+ screens, apart from one or two exceptions, which is a drawback but you can't get around it on this kind of budget.
I have one myself and I love it.

The only thing is that the presets are horrible, but I can give you my settings to get you started.

It seems most people mention that screen as one of the top picks, might look into it. Want to see if I can get a few more suggestions before I go ahead. On another note, I see that you are a "motherboard authority". Would you mind telling me if my motherboard is bogging down my system in any way?
It's an Asus P8P67 EVO, from what I have read, motherboards don't really impact performance that much, but just wanted to make sure.

Unless you have more than 2 SSDs in your system I don't see how this motherboard would hold you back. Seems like a very solid board. Very positive reviews too.

You could go for a BenQ monitor. The BenQ XL2420T is the direct competitor to the Asus. It's a bit more expensive though. That's what it comes down to in the end, sub €400-500 60Hz+ you can't really beat the VG248QE in price-performance in my opinion.

EDIT: There's also the BenQ XL2420Z, same story.

I got 2 SSDs and 1 HDD for mass storage, so that shouldnt be a problem then.
As far as monitors go, is the additional money worth it for the BenQ monitors? I live in Denmark so it would cost me an additional 600 dkkr for the Benq XL2420T (roughyl 63.33 pounds), whereas the Asus lands perfectly on what I was thinking (it's 2069 dkkr or roughly 218.37 pounds, and i was looking at the 2000dkkr area, or roughly 211.09 pounds).
Given my local prices, which would you recommend?

EDIT: I should add that its from the same website, so I would be able to get both by thursday at the same time, which woul be pretty sweet.

Will be going with that monitor then, would you mind posting your setting so I can use them, and if anyone else sees this post they can use them too? :)

No problem, they already float around this forum in triplicate I think :p Copy paste:

Splendid Mode: Theater
Brightness: 35 (had it at 60 first but turned it down over the course of a few days)
Contrast: 60
Saturation: 60
Color Temp.: User Mode -> Red: 99 Green: 98 Blue: 87
Skin Tone: Natural
Smart View: Off
Sharpness: 50
Trace Free: 80 (performs much better than 100 for some reason)
ASCR: Off

This is at 144Hz using DisplayPort and I'm not using an ICC Profile, their Gamma is generally too low for me, can't see anything in dark areas.

ICC Profiles if you want to use them:
https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/asus-vg248qe/ (it's in there somewhere)

HDMI 1.4 won't support 144Hz @ 1080p. DisplayPort will. Dual Link DVI also supports 144Hz @1080p and that's the cable the monitor comes with so you can just use that.
I use DisplayPort only because it's easier to connect and disconnect.

The monitor also comes with a guide that shows which cable supports what in a nice table.

Looked through the Pcmonitors post, are you using the Nvidia lightboost for 2D? Could you recommend it? Since I'll be getting a Nvidia card, I figured I might try.
