Wirelessly mirror laptop display on TV

Wiring my laptop to a TV through a HDMI cable is nice but being tethered to the TV is sometimes annoying. I stay in a lot of hotel rooms so a wireless solution for sending the data would be great.

Chromecast seems like a great device, however I would prefer to merely broadcast whatever is on my laptop screen. It wouldn't necessarily have to be hdmi if most tvs had a port for it.

I'm currently using an Acer Aspire V3 which does have an intel graphics interface. Reading about WiDi from the link you've give reedo_43, I think I may be able to use WiDi if i update some drivers, not sure.

After looking around more online I see that microsoft is coming out with a "wireless display adapter" at the end of the month. Seems very similar to the intel WiDi, both using miracast. Either solution eliminates the need for a piece of equipment plugged into the laptop.

It makes me a bit nervous that it's not simply pretending to be plugged in directly but minimizing the bulk of the solution is nice. Guess I need to invest in a looong hdmi cable first until i figure this out. Input appreciated. :--)
