Dual mointors - one HDMI one DVI

I would like to upgrade to having two monitors instead of a single one and I was wondering if they need to come from the same output on the graphics card or can I have one coming from HDMI and one from DVI?

They just need to both come from the card, they don't need to both be on the same output type. I am currently running one on DVI and one on HDMI without issue.
