Hi all, I'm Having issues replacing a new graphics card for my brothers PC and I was hoping if someone would have some advice as the new graphics card wont register when I boot up even though I know there is nothing wrong with it as it works perfectly on my PC. I've uninstalled every Nvidia Driver and done everything correctly to install the new one but no matter what I do it doesn't seem to work and as soon as I boot up the pc the monitor just turns off onto standby? Any advice and support would be greatly appreciated as I'm now out of idea's and we can't afford to buy another graphics card so this is the last throw of the dice. Many thanks in advance.

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..

you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers there only guaranteed to work as is out of the box as you bought it ,..

if prebuilts were made for lots of upgrading we would not need to do all these custom builds

Many thanks for your reply it's much appreciated but I've added other Nvidia GC to that motherboard so I'm not 100% convinced it's got a fixed Bio. The Nvidia GT220 Driver kept failing when watching video's but didn't when playing games so I had to down grade to a 512GB Nvidia GC with no issues at all.
Could it be that I can only add Nvidia cards and not AMD? Also I myself will never buy a completed PC from a shop and always prefer to build them myself for this reason I am posting.

heres what I find most times on this

the pci-e slot on some prebuilts can be cut back from the standered 75w lets say down to 45w so if you get a card that requires the full pci-e slot to be at the 75w and its not the card fails to work

lower end cards don't need the full 75w and run fine on what ever the slot is set at by whoever as said above. its a lot of funny business cause they don't have to keep to the atx standard with there board as do the ones we get for custom builds

Thanks again for your reply. I'm going to my brothers later so what I will do is take my Nvidia 2GB card to see if that will load up and I will let you know how I get on. In till then if anyone has had similar issues I would be interested to see how you got on, Thanks again

The non-OEM (ECS) version of that motherboard gets terrible reviews.
'
You might be experiencing a PCI-E version problem. Early PCI-E implementations don't always work with newer cards.
It affects AMD cards more than NVidia cards.

And chances are there is no BIOS update available because it is OEM
