I'm about to build me a new PC from the following parts. I had hoped to collect some feedback regarding the build, i.e. compatibility, power supply (750W enough?) and general build parts.

Goals:
- Work in VMWare Workstation with all Windows versions as guest, as well as Ubuntu for programming (with InteliJ)
- Work with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator locally
- Play the latest games on ULTRA with decent FPS because I have had notebooks for 10 years and I just FOR ONCE want to shop for a new game without worrying about performance.

Well lets see if it was me I would want a well rounded system. You can always add more HDD and SDD later down the line if you need it. Without knowing what your budget is I kept it around the same price as the setup you made just switched out a couple things for better performance. Also with the 750W PSU you will be able to add a 2nd 970 down the line when need it.

Also you forgot an optical drive, dont know if that was on purpose or not.

upgrade your gpu...the rest of build seems to be rocking..get a gtx 970 r 980 or gtx 780 ...they will help you in better FPS and editing needs...plus the 770 is not enough to give good fps in all games...
cheers

The only problem with these builds is the PSU. Corsair does make good power supplies but the CX series have cheap capacitors which some owners have experienced failures. If you stick with Corsair, purchase the TX, HX or AX series. If you jump ship to another brand, Antec, Seasonic or XFX are the one best.

Ok, so I'd replace the GPU with an ASUS GTX-970 STRIX (4GB) as it is only a little more expensive, however it's not currently available. Do you think I could build the machine without GPU and use it for work only, while waiting for the GPU?

I shopped around for this card and couldn't find it (I don't live in the US). I also would like to stick to my vendor as they have provided me with good service in the past. It should be available soon so it's not a big issue.

I just want to know if running such a config without any GPU at all is a sensible thing to do for business/programming etc.
