I was doing a bit of cable management, was completely done and just had to take the tops off of the cable ties. I tied the cpu power cable with a few other wires. I was using a small-ish scissors. I double checked to see if any wires were in the way. Cut it and then I noticed that I had cut the black wire of the cpu power cable.

My dad told me to be careful with it and I said I would, and this has happened. What will I do?

Would I be able to solder the cut wire toghether?

Thanks.

Absolutely 0 but my dad's pretty good, although he's gonna kill me when he finds out about this.

another trick is to pop out the wire from the conenctor end and from any auto parts store pick up some shrink tubing to cover the cut. then put a piece of electrical tape over the shrink tubing.

Which would be better in your opinion?

For a PSU cable, I would NOT go with just heat shrink. IMHO, of course.

And if your personal soldering skills are not up to it, don't. Fess up, and ask your dad to teach you how to do it right.

I would ONLY solder them. I would not do a twist and tape job here. Solder and heatshrink.

So a pretty simple fix yes? It was so agonizing how it happened the minute I was finished :fou:

Of course I was the big idiot that used a scissors to cut the cable ties...

Just wondering what the purpose of that black cpu wire is for, the two yellow ones and the other black are intact. (Not wondering if I can turn it on, just asking) Are black and yellow wires for a cpu power cable an industry standard or does it vary from psu to psu?

Just repair the broken wire and move on with life.
