I am looking for a new CPU and MB for my daughters computer. The only game she plays is World of Warcraft and doesn't raid a lot. So, what is an inexpensive combo that I could use that would still allow her to raid and not break the bank? She has a HD7870 video card and 8gb 1600mhz ram ready to go with it...

More about : cpu world warcraft

A simple intel dual core processor and mobo combo will do if saving money is the priority. She may not be able to sustain at ultra settings during a raid but still get very high settings with that gpu and this combo. Of course a quad core would be better for ultra but then you are spending a good chunk more of cash. I'll see if I can find a link of a good combo in a little bit.

Most budget friendly socket 775:

Better peformance but $50 more socket 1150:

Great performance with quad core but $225 socket 1150:

Most upgradeable w z series mobo and quad core but $285 socket 1150:

If I don't post all these someone will chime in "well you should get x...". I have simply listed the range of combos for you to consider and leave it to you to decide what will be best for your daughter. You can of course get an i7 hyperthread capable cpu with the last 3 choices but for wow only it would be a waste. Any of these board you can upgrade the cpu later but only the last board is both sli and crossfire capable. They are not always synonymous so be careful with that. Hope this helped!

Thanks,

Justin S.
