Computer isn't outputting a picture.

Hello,

I've been modifying a dell Optiplex gx620 for my Dad. He mainly wants to listen to music on it and watch movies.

I added an Nvidia Geforce 210 graphics card so my Dad could watch movies on it.

This is the only modification that i've done.

The scenario: We had the computer hooked up to the TV via HDMI through the Geforce 210. We finished watching an episode of a tv series, and I shut the computer down. However, I noticed that the computer was still on. The green light on the power switch was still there.

I left it a while, but it wouldn't turn off. I flicked through the channels, but there wasn't any picture being produced by the computer, even though it was on.

I turned the computer off at the mains. I turned it on again, but there still wasn't any picture.

I tried connecting a VGA cable to the computer and using it with a computer monitor (since it's much simpler than a TV). However, there was still no picture even though the green power light was on.

I then bypassed the graphics card completely. I took it out and plugged the VGA cable directly to the motherboard. There was still no picture.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

To me, it seems like a motherboard problem. There was no picture when connected directly to the motherboard, so I don't think the motherboard is outputting a video signal. I'd be interested in hearing solutions that other people may have.

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance!

Solution

the only thing i could suggest is to dis-assemble then re assemble it again. to make sure nothing is a miss...but in your case how about let a tech have a look since you already did everything that was in the list.

Thanks.

I went down the list, and the two bits that applied to me were taking the RAM chips out and putting them in again, or attempting to boot the computer with just a single RAM chip. I just tried both of these, and I still wasn't getting a picture.

Is there anything else that you could suggest?
