So I'm wondering what you guys think on the two cpus.

I understand both CPUS are similar right now for gaming, but for how much longer are they going to stay the same. I understand nobody really knows the answer to that but I'm still trying to justify the cost different with performance because as of right now they both perform almost identically if not identically for current games out or coming out this year.

If i went with an 4670k, on average how long are assumptions that the 4770k's 8 cores are going to be used?

Because right now theres a 4670k on sale for 250$ just until today so wondering what I should do with my options.

Also how big is the difference going to really be even when the 8 cores are initialized?

I'm basically aiming to hit max settings on games for 2 years CPU wise of course, as in no bottlenecking!

An i5 is perfectly fine for gaming right now. If you are planning to use it for two years, you should be fine. We don't know when games will start to use more than four cores effectively, but with most games today using two to four cores, you should be fine for quite a while.

Do you live in the U.S.? $250 is too much for an i5.

Thats the link to it, live in canada!

I'm just worried that getting the 4670k is going to make me justify a new purchase.

I've currently got a AMD Phenom II 1100t that I've had since release, and I'm quite sure it came out back in 2007 so it's lasted me for quite the years running everything I've had to.

i7 has four cores, not eight. It just has Hyperthreading that allows each core to run two threads.

It has very little benefit for games. An i5 is all you need.

I'd go with this instead.

An i5 will last you years. They are both four core processors, but the i7 has Hyperthreading, which you don't need for gaming. But if you are worried about it, go for the i7. If you keep it for many years like your Phenom II, it will serve you well and is a good investment. Here is the 4790K, if you want it.

I can get the 4690k for the exact same price as the 4670k right now, so I'm guessing its worth it?

The i5-4690K is a Haswell refresh processor and requires a Z97 chipset motherboard.
