Not sure if this should be here but here goes. So I'm making a custom desk that has my gaming computer built into it. I'm not sure about how I should mount the mobo in it. I have an idea of what I want it to look like and the dimensions. So what I am asking is for suggestions and ideas when I start making it I can take pictures. Oh and it won't be liquid cooled I don't have the money to do that, I do have a liquid CPU cooler though

More about : suggestions making desk serves case

What is the desk made of?

I'd look at mounting the motherboard in a vertical orientation. I think that will help with heat management. If you mean in a physical sense, for construction and maintenance, I think everything needs to mounted to some sort of removable, rigid, 'liner', support that fits into the desk and can then be removed for assembly and testing.

What I really want is a combination of this and this so the vertical wouldn't work. on the second one I dont want the keyboard area but I cant really have it like the first because the water cooling. so basically I want a mixture of the two but mostly the first one because I have an extra PSU I will mount in the desk and hook up leds to it :D  oh and It will be made out of plywood and then wrapped with 3m di-con carbon fiber wrap

So you are not planning for the lighting effects of the first?

I think a vertical or angled motherboard would work in the area below the monitor stand, but you have the vision.

Post photos as you go. Some clear panels would being attention to the special bits.
what other ideas do you have?

well I want the lighting of the first one with the RGB led strips. I like the idea of the piano hinges of the second. As an idea of my own I really want a desk with a cupholder or two. I was thinking maybe I could make a cupholder that slides in and out of the front of the desk? im not sure yet how I want it. Im trying to make some plans for it in sketchup but Im HORRID at it lol. I cant seem to get the measurements correct because I either slide over them or cant quite hit them on mark :I Its very frusterating to me.

That is what CAD is for :)  (Or 3d modelling)

I spent many years doing CAD. It's faster than drafting for me (and a lot neater) :)

Ive been thinking of how im going to keep the beast cool and i came up with a decent idea. Well not really decent though because I think its flawed pretty bad. I want 3 120mm exhaust fans and than 3 120mm fans pushing air into the pc area of the desk. I was thinking of how to get the air to the input fans because there is a big area of "nothing" in my plans until the other end of the desk. So I came up with the idea to get pvc piping to atttatch to the fans so they would draw air from the end of the desk. Then I thought that it might not stay cool enough so I had the idea of an "ice box". I could make a sealed box with a trapdoor on the top that you can dump ice into and have the pvc pipes go into the front of it and have more in the back that go to the end of the desk with more fans pushing. That way there would be fans pushing air through the ice box and more fans pulling air from the icebox into the pc area and the 3 exhaust fans pulling the air from the desk back into the room.. the problems I have though would be how cold would it be? Would the ice box lower the air under room temps causing condensation on my hardware?? Im just really not sure if that would lower the air under room temperature, that would be a MAJOR problem . I dont know how I could keep it cool in the desk while not making the air go under room temps.
Thanks for all your help so far too
oh and essentially It would be like a homeade air conditioner for the pc in the desk
