I recently upgraded my desktop from a single stick of RAM ( G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 to be specific) to two of them (same stick) but my PC only recognizes 12gb. I don't believe it is a problem with the slot because it recognizes 4 more gbs just not the whole thing. I changed slots anyway just to be sure though and no change. My mobo is the ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 and should support 32gb of RAM. I messed with the RAM BIOS settings to see if that would effect anything. After manual adjustment of all settings and rebooting there was still no change. I'm wondering if anybody else has run into this issue and found a fix for it. Thank you for any help.

Are you sure you haven't bought a stick of 4GB of that RAM?

Put properly working ram into the slot of bad ram if the properly working ram is still working this will make sure that there is no
problem with the slots and u said u upgraded your computer recently so your ram should have a warranty period so , contact the
shop or place where u bought it and get it replaced and get a new one :)

Check each module to see what they show up as. Use a program like CPU-Z to see the specs, you can find the model# and other details that should explain what's going on.

The weird part is I was asking and discussing this with other friends who have custom built PCs and a friend of mine with another ASUS mobo (different model) has the same exact issue and he doesn't even have the same brand RAM as me. Our towers our completely different except for the mobo brand, graphics card, and OS (Windows 8.1 pro x64). This leads me to believe it has something to do with the mobo or OS. If it was with the OS though I think it would be more prevalent on the internet.

Yes I checked the electronic receipt and looked on the RAM, it is indeed 8gb. That would be funny though lol.

The cpu-z reads one 8gb and one 4gb but the weird thing is that my BIOS reads two 8gb sticks. I do not believe the issue is with the RAM
