I am currently building a pc. But I have 2 monitors. I don't want to connect my main graphic card to my second monitor (to be more efficient when I'm gaming). Can I use another graphic card that is laying around?

You can hook up each card to each monitor, as long as you have the ports and the PSU to run both. The only thing would be possible driver conflicts if the cards are too different.

Depending on your motherboard, if you install a second graphics card to drive a second monitor, it make decrease the performance of your first card anyway. We need more information; in particular, the motherboard make and model number as well as your power supply.

No I said I wanted to put another gpu in my build for my second monitor so my main gpu won't be affected by the second monitor

Won't hurt anything to try it, though, if you have a crappy PSU you might blow that, otherwise, no harm really in doin it.
