So I have an issue here:
For the past couple of years, I have been slowly upgrading a relatively older computer, that was previously used for 3D rendering and such. I am an indie game addict, and I don't really need the best of the best, but I like good performance anyway. I just upgraded the last component, the motherboard, 2 days ago. The specs for this system are, (after all the upgrades):
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9550, at 2.8ghz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 6870, 1gb GDDR5 RAM.
Motherboard: Intel DG43GT
RAM: 8gb of Hynix DDR2 800mhz
SSD: Samsung 840 evo 250gb
PSU: 600w Silverstone (Its modular, I don't remember the exact model.)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
So, a while ago I bought a DirectX11 gpu, because I needed it to run a newer game, (not sure how many of you have heard of TUG,) and installed it. There was an increase in performance, but the motherboard was so old that it was still PCIe 1.0, so it was kind of academic. (Also, it didn't support the quad core I bought, hence the need for a new motherboard.)
Anyway, after installing the new motherboard, I tried out TUG and a couple of other games, and it was actually slightly worse in performance. After having both task manager, and hardware monitor open, I found that my gpu was bottlenecking. The cpu was chugging along fine, never going over 30%, but the gpu seemed to always be between 96-99% while in game. I have seen this particular gpu used by other people, and I know it is not a bad one. They seem to have better performance then me. so, I'm wondering, is this a software issue, or bios setting that could be changed? I feel like I could be getting better performance out of my gpu, (If not, correct me), and with the graphics on high, or max, I'm averaging around 15 fps on TUG. It may be this game, I don't have a large library to test on, so...
Any ideas? Is it just that I have an under-powered gpu? are there certain settings in my bios of OS I could tweak that I am unaware of?
I am not a computer newbie, I have been dabbling in this for a while.
Thanks in advance for any help you could give me!
