Hello, i am overclocking a R7 240 to 1100 mhz (core and memory clock), It worked for a few months, but now, in afterburner, it says 900mhz core clock and 842 memory clock. anyone can help me with this?

More about : overclock applying

I have a I5- 4570s, and a h87-plus mb.

What says 900 Mhz...the readings or the settings ?

1. Reset all the settings as desired, make sure to save settings...shud save to 1 of the 5 profiles for easy reloading.

2. Do you have latest version installed ? IS it set to load your profile at startup ?

3. Run Furmark (aka 'flying doughnut") and observe the card's clock in upper left of screen

I would ninstall msi afterburner and make sure not to remember settings while uninstalling. then restart you r computer and install MSI afterburner 4.0. then restart again and hopefully all will be well.

if it is not this then maybe you enabled some settings in amd drivers. have you adjusted anything in the performance>overdrive section. if so this would conflict with your afterburner numbers. you would need to shut off the overdrive settings. or just use overdrive to overclock the card.

i personnally do not like overdrive and once turned on it has made my afterburner not work anymore.

if this is the case then it is time to uninstall everything and then install the drivers then afterburner.

dont run furmark anymore. There is just to much of a risk when telling others to run that program, we do not want to be responsible if something goes wrong. If you overclock all of the time like I do then sure we know what to look for to make sure we do not damage anything.

you can get the same info using the heaven benchmark

https://unigine.com/products/heaven/download/

you will see the clocks in the top right corner.

It seems that running furmark resolved my problem...
Thanks for the answers!

You put the GPU under load.

Your CPU and GPU downclock under no load....apply a load and there they go off to the races.

I put load on them before. 300mhz not under load.

Hmm... Same thing as before. I noticed that while not under load, vram clock is 900mhz and core clock is at 400mhz.

And furmark doesnt resolve the problem this time. in furmark, it says 1100mhz, but in afterburner, it says 900 mhz and 842 mhz vram and core clock, respectively.

Again, latest version of AB ? I think MSI AB is glitched .... make sure you have latest version and make sure that no other sensor programs running in.

What temps are you seeing ? These cards are designed to run at 95C and if you are not exceeding that, you are certainly at no risk, the card, like all current generation stuff, is equipped with both power and temperature limiters which will take steps to protect your components but I prefer not to test them :)  last time I was doing testing with OCCT, nVidia driver was sensing the program and downclocking the card (this was a lappie), I called the manufacturer and their instructions were to run Furmark.

What does GPU-Z say ?

I just reinstalled the latest version of afterburner, and my card is equipped with gigabyte's cooler. It runs at 41 C underload, and room temperature not under load.

And GPUz says ?

currently 26 c, 400 mhz core, 900 mhz vram, 170mb dedicate memory usage, 56 dynamic, VDDC 0,900 V.

Ok, let me rephrase ... what does GPUz says when furmark is running

1. Load GPUz and set it to "show highest reading"
2. Load and Run Furmark for 10 minutes (stop if temps exceed 95C)
3. Shut down Furmark so you can see GPUz again.
4. Report back with max temp and speeds

43C at max load .... something is not letting that card run....what is selected in AB with regard to temperature or power control ? This is whereabouts your AB settings should be

Power Target 120%
Priority set to temperature
GPU clock 1175 MHz
Memory clock +1800 MHz
Voltage 1250 mV
Fan control RPM @ default

The purpose of MSI Afterburner is to toss the factory OC settings out the window. If you want to run at factory OC, you don't need AB. It sounds as if your Power limiter is at or below 100% ... it should be 120%

Try these settings:

It was factory OC to 900 mhz, but i bumped it up to 1100mhz. My power limit was always at 120%.

It seems that my gpu's idle clock speed are 400mhz core, 900 mhz memory. It seems a bit weird.

My 4.6 OC CPU idles at 0.8 GHz ..... my two 780's w/ 1100 MHz OC idle at 324 MHz .... what's weird ?

Sometimes its at 300 mhz (memory and core) (when its running normally), sometimes its at 900mhz (mem) and 400 mhz (core) (when i get the issue). I dont know what causes this. I think its when i make programs run in the background, and when i return to them, the issue happen.

The problem is that it is running at lower clock speeds, even when i am running a graphically demanding game.

The clock speed are for idle, but when it is in load, its 900 mhz memory clock and 842 core clock.
