Hi, guys was wondering if you veteran builders could help me out with my first build PC. For awhile now I think I got my heart set on a AMD setup since they're cheaper for the buck and looking at Newegg combo deals, was wondering which setup I should go with.

I want to say that my budget is around 650 for the parts, since I know I have to buy windows OS system.

Looking at the specs for AMD cpu's I don't know which I should get since this will be used mostly for gaming along with multitasking between two screens. I am upgrading from a gaming laptop that is 4 year old and with a graphics card that has 512mb... so fps wise all these setups will look amazing either way. The most high end games that cant' run well on my laptop with fps at around 2-10 are Arma II, red faction guerrilla , crysis 2, Civ 5 in huge map, witcher 2, starcraft II, starpoint Gemini 2, and X3 series.

So I guess my question is which CPU would be good for me since it seems that other than power consumption and some extra cores, there's no real big differences for what I'm going to be using it.

I think all those kits compromise quality in one way or another .

Its possible to get a very good build at the same price buying parts individually , and to have better performance and fewer compromises

Outlander_04 is right about compromising quality in one area or another with those bundles. Here is a build that is slightly over your budget, but will let you crank up the settings on any game out today.

One of the things that I was going for the combo deals was that I would get them all at the same time but also I'm assuming that they all fit in the same case since it would be hard to measurements without ordering the case first. Also can you explain why they compromise the quality in some way? I know that one of the power supplies sets could probably be better than what there offering and the reviews for the parts aren't all that bad.

Some builds have lower quality motherboards
all have weaker graphics cards
and lower quality psu's

Yes you have to order from multiple suppliers , but then even if you order the kit its probably being shipped from multiple locations anyway .

Parts are standardized so all ATX motherboards and psu's fit ATX cases , etc .
The pcpartpicker site also tells you if there are known size incompatibilities .

Either of the builds suggested above is better than the kits [ Except for Boss Cat Johnsons inclusion of a hard drive optimized for video surveillance , or a NAS ] .
You could mix and match from the two builds as well .
His suggested processor is more powerful but would work just the same in the motherboard I suggested etc. You could change the case to anything you liked [ so long as it was an ATX case]

Well in that case, putting aside the combo deals and such. Which FX series CPU do you think would go well with what I'm after?

The more you pay the better you get
FX 6300 or FX 8320 are the cost effective options .
Both can be overclocked to match higher spec processors

Alright, it seems like I have more research to do before I start spending cash left and right. Thanks you guys for all the helpful info.
