Hey there, new member with a specific question.

So I was swapping my gaming rig into a new case over the weekend. I had everything in place, turned on, display showed, logged into windows. All good.

That is until I went to plug in a strip of led lights. I attached the first connection fine; but when i connected the second, a spark flew out and my display died.

I shut everything off. Took out the lights and attempted a restart. My card (gigabyte 7870) didn't spin up, and there is no display.

I grabbed my old card, (a powercolor 5770) and plugged it all up. When I hit the power button now, the GPU's fans spin at 100%, the CPU and case fans come on, but no display. the HDD sounds like it's ticking into a normal boot, but I have no on board display to check past the card.

Also, after the fiasco with the lights, I noticed the power buttons LED on the case no longer lights when turning on the pc.

So I guess my question is; whats sounds cooked? My mobo, the pcie slot? my psu?

I dont have any other spares than the card to swap out, and dont want to go about buying a new PSU if it turns out the whole rig is done for.

Thanks in advance guys!

Between board (most likely) and PSU. Never plug anything in when running unless it is external plug and play socket like USB.

This should have been obvious advice. I'm an idiot for doing it. I may have to scrap the rig and upgrade anyway as it is an LGA 1156 board and cpu.
