Well I bought a VGA splitter for my computer to set up two monitors. But when I hook everything thing up both of my monitors come on but they are duplicate but my computer wont let me change that. I have a windows 8.1 Pro computer and when I go to my projects to set up a different screen it says: your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card. my computer has a NVIDIA video card. I went on their site and did the updates and that didn't work so uninstalled it and then reinstalled it but that didn't work.

What video ard are you using?
All that I know of have at least two outputs.
You should connect each monitor separately to a different video card output.
A splitter is not the way to do it.
Then on your desktop, right click and select the nvidia control panel.
Select up multiple displays. What you want is extended desktop, not clone
