So I have been looking at the i5 4670k for a while and looks great, but all I would be using it for is gaming, so is that a waste because for the same price the amd 9590 is 4.7ghz! Please someone give me some helpful advise. Remember I will using this comp for gaming 90% of the time

The I5 is the better choice than the AMD which is extremely power hungry and needs a high end board to run. At std clocks the I5 will beat the AMD in 99% of all gaming.

If you overclock the i5 4670k as you should because it overclocks very well it will be good as an i7 but comparing it to AMD? For gaming? Intel beats it ALL the way.

The 9590 is an overpriced overclocked FX-8350.
It is not nearly as strong for gaming as a i5-4670K.
Gaming depends on a few fast cores more than many cores.
Most games can make use of only 2-3 cores, making most of the 9590 cores irrelevant.
The reason is that the intel cores are much stronger per clock than the amd cores.
If you raise the "K" multiplier from 34 to 40 and northward(AKA overclock), it will be even stronger.
And, for the same price, buy a i5-4690K, it has better thermal characteristics.

I agree with the 4690K, the best CPU for gaming under 250$.

The intel processors are overall better for gaming due to most games poor optimization of amd's 8 cores. And definitely go for the i5 4690k instead. About the same price but a hell of a lot better

Stay Away from the FX-9590.
1) It may be 4.7 GHz, But it will only run on a AMD 990FX Chipset. So you're not only spending $300 for the 9590, You will also be spending $110+ on the Motherboard.

2) A Liquid Cooler is MANDATORY for the 9590. No Air cooler will keep it cool, and that alone will cause some Alarm bells to ring.

3) Though it has 8 Cores, Those cores are not as powerful as Intel Cores. AMD's Cores are meant for Multitasking and Video editing. Intel Cores are meant for a lot more.

Go for the Intel Core i5-4690K.
1) It may be only at 3.5 Ghz, It is Unlocked, and can be overclocked to 4.7Ghz fairly easily.

2) You Don't need a Liquid cooler to overclock this thing. A Hyper 212 EVO will do you just fine. (Although I maybe wrong here)

3) It may be a Quad-Core, but these cores are meant for Gaming. BF4 or Crysis 3 Will run extremely well when paired with a Discrete GPU.

4) It has a lot more bang for the buck in terms of overall performance. It's $250, and with the proper Z87 or Z97 Motherboard (Suggested Motherboard: MSI Z97M-G43), Will allow you to overclock and give you a ton of performance.

5) It's a 'Devil's Canyon' CPU. Nuff Said.

Suggestive parts:
-CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K ($229.99 @ Amazon)
-Motherboard: MSI Z97M-G43 ($108.99 @ Amazon)
