Hello all,

I am looking at a motherboard with a maximum rated CPU TDP of 145W.

Does the maximum CPU TDP ratings of a dual processor motherboard relate to both processors/heat sinks combined or does the CPU TDP rating relate to each processor/heat sink individually?

(For color: if I drop two CPUs rated at 85W each into a mobo rated at 145W, will it be okay or do I stand a good chance of melting something?)

? Dual socket boards aren't common. They are server boards and not meant for a gaming machine which is what we see most of the time. What are you looking to do?

I am new to this community and I did not have the prior knowledge that this community is mainly focused on gaming. I am not looking to game with this server. It will be a data analytics server.

Ok, that's fine. Just most of the time we are dealing with people who want a gaming machine. No problem if you are looking at a server. I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. What board are you looking at? It should be per socket. So if the socket is rated for 95W CPUs, then you should be able to run 2x95W CPUs on them. It should also be as simple as making sure the CPU you buy is on the support list for the board. If it's not on the support list DON'T buy it.
