On pcpartpicker I barely see one over 4.5 stars on new egg barely any have more 4-5 stars than 1-3 even the higher end ones like z87 and z97 im planning to get the asus m5a97 with a amd fx 6300 i might plan on getting a msi b85m g43 with an i5 as it is one of the only boards that has lots of favorable reviews

Because you don't know how to interpret reviews. What's wrong with an item that gets 75-80% 4 and 5 star ratings with only 10% or so of those ratings being 1 or 2 star? Look at the low ratings sometime and you'll likely find a whiner complaining that the UPS guy stepped on the shipping box or they didn't get a SATA cable with their OEM hard drive. Cheap shots!

Even the msi b85m g43 board your looking at only got 4-out-of-5.
Why ? Because a few people didn't open their eyes and see the sata and usb are side mounted and are having trouble fitting the connections in their case. Has nothing to do with the operation of the MB at all.

I can see where your coming from as a few years ago all the best MB's had 5 stars and it was easy to differentiate the top from the rest, but as a best guess I would say more (inexperienced) people are building there own and lowering the ratings due to their own mistakes. The number of "bent cpu pins" that "wasn't me" drives me crazy.

Do scan through the low reviews thou and keep a lookout for any reappearing issues you may see and investigate it in the forums.
Every once in awhile a bad BIOS version or board audio issue (etc...) does make its way past QC, but for the most part, a 4 review is the new 5 :-)

PS.... another +1 for the i5 setup
