Hi all!

As the title suggests, I have a Rosewill Challenger and I'm looking to grab an aftermarket water cooler for my I5-4690k. I've been looking at the H80i and I'm set to buy it but just one teeny tiny thing stands in my way....will it fit in my case? I have an MSI Z97 Gaming 7 motherboard which has rather tall heatsinks (for a motherboard at least) on the left and top side of the CPU but for all intents and purposes, they shouldn't be a problem. The rear of the case houses a 120mm fan so I know the fans will fit but my real concern is whether or not the radiator will fit since it's slightly larger than the 120mm fans. Any help would be greatly appreciated! If (miraculously) anyone happens to have to this case AND is running this water cooler please let me know how it works!

Rest of my specs (just in case):
Intel I5-4690k
MSI Z97 Gaming 7
MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G
Corsair CX750M
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
WD Blue 1TB HDD
Various PCI cards (Wi-Fi, Sound, etc.)
Rosewill Challenger case

It could probably be made to work, but as an out of the box option, no. The top fan is a pre-drilled 140mm fan location and the front fan slot area does not have room as the hard drive cages would interfere. As I said, it could probably be modded to work but there are probably better choices for a slightly larger investment.

This Corsair Carbide series case is a much better design and has a higher level of quality, plus it's fully compatible with the H80i.

One thing you could do is, take a ruler, align it with the rear fan mounting holes & see for yourself it those heatsinks are an obstruction or not.

Those heatsinks are tall, but not that tall. IMO it should easily fit.

Fitting, and fitting in a manner consistent with good case airflow that doesn't interfere with the expected and necessary exhaust fan configuration are two different things. There are a lot of things that can be made to "fit" something, but it doesn't mean it's going to make for an efficient or even acceptable configuration. Regardless of how you fit that unit to either the rear or top rear fan location, it's likely going to interfere with the adjacent fan location and is probably not a good idea. If you can fit it without interference and make use of the other location for exhaust, excellent, if not, find another case or you will have temperature issues.

H80i rear exhaust - front & top intake.
H80i rear intake - top exhaust.

Its a budget case, it has decent airflow.
There won't be any temp issues.
A new case would decrease the cpu temp marginally.

@op you can add a 120mm fan in 5.25" drive bay to improve airflow.

Hi

So long as the Mobo's heat sink is not higher than the I/O ports, the rad will not hit the heat sink because the exhaust fan's holes starts just above the I/O ports. But if that heat sink is higher than the I/O port it might hit rad.

It also depends on the manufacturer, if they do a good job on the case and drilling holes correctly the rad should align perfectly.

My current case for example is a Z9 U3 with a standard 120mm exhaust fan mount the back. The fan is about I would say 1-2 cm away from the I/O ports while my Mobo heat sink beside the I/O port is not going over the I/O ports height. I installed some 120mm rad as exhaust from the past (it was an H80 with push and pull as they come with 2 fans out the box) and it fit perfectly without hitting any parts of the Mobo and it also did not hit the I/O port. Which means if the Heat sink from the MSi mobo is not higher than its I/O ports (which I think have a standard size to fit most cases I/O cut out) it should clear your Heat sink easily.

edit:

1 thing is certain in my opinion, it should be able to fit on the exhaust , but it won't fit on the top of the case. The same happened to me on this Z9 U3 because if you mount the 120mm rad on the top of the case it will hit your Mobo heat sink which is also at the top as well as the PSU power cable connected to the mobo.

Although if you are keen on changing the case, the 300R recommendation from dark, is a good recommendation as an alternative since most of the fan mounts have offsets ready to allow installation of Rads with corsair cases :) .

Ok so I've decided that I'll just buy a new case and not risk anything going wrong with my current case and setup. I checked out the 300R w/ window for $80 and I like it quite a bit. However, would anyone be able to suggest something in that price range ($100 or less) that they feel is a better fit for the job?

At 80 bucks, I don't think I'd go with that case, at 50-60 bucks it's a decent deal. Where are you that you can't get the case for the listed price? At 100 bucks or less, I like the Cooler master Storm Enforcer. But everybody has a model they like better so it's really up to you and if it has the features you want plus fits your preference visually.

I'm in the United States....is that case suppose to be cheaper? I was looking at it on newegg. And I'm not a fan of the Storm Enforcer but thanks for your suggestion! I'll keep looking around and see if I can't find something that I like!

Does anyone have any opinions on the NZXT Phantoms?

Actually they're not bad. The 200mm fans mean big cooling with low RPM noise and they have multiple radiator configuration support.
