Built my own budget gaming pc not to long ago and now plan on doin some upgrades, getting a new case, new ram sticks, and a new MOBO, i have been hearing that this will cause problems and i will have to reinstall windows and lose everthing or some people say i will b fine and just trying to figure which is true and/or do i have to whipe everything off my hdd and start from new? Also considering getting a ssd but trying to figure this stuff out first, any help would b much appreciated

Solution
There is a good chance you will have to reinstall Windows. I would suggest that when you install the SSD, you do a fresh install - as the Windows installation will take full advantage of the SSD's performance. The best way is to remove the HDD, install Windows on the SSD, then when Windows is activated and running, plug in the HDD.

When ever you switch motherboards you will have to re install windows because the chip set drivers installed on your hard drive will cause problems and crashes with a different motherboard and a fresh in stall on a different motherboard will always help you avoid issues because of drivers.

Some people prefer to reformat the drive - it is actually up to you if you want to do that. You can clear out the files from the drive that are duplicated (program files, windows, etc.) and remove the system partition (extend the regular partition). Sometimes it is easier to reformat.....LOL. But you would need to backup all the data files prior to doing this.
