I have recently purchased an Asus X553MA laptop and it came with a 2GB DDR3 RAM.
I need to upgrade it to 4 or 8 GB. It has only a single slot. I tried two different 1600 MHZ RAM sticks(Adata/Corsair). But my laptop is not booting up with those rams. When i checked the cpu specs of IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® Processor N3530, its showing Memory type as DDR3L - 1333. Does that mean it wont support 1600 MHZ RAM ?
Current RAM in slot is: 2GB 1Rx 16 PC3L - 12800S -11-12-C3 from Hynix (Isn't it 1600 ?)

Shouldn't be an issue of speed. Higher rated RAM will just clock down. The problem is likely that you tried an 8GB stick. The N3530 supports up to 8GB in 2 channels, so no more than 4GB per stick. Were the 2 sticks you tried 8GB?

Or am I wrong?

Yes. that is the maximum supported speed. So that's why faster RAM will underclock to 1333, which is what I said before. Look at the maximum memory size. It is 8GB, with a max supported channel of 2. So likely 4GB is the most dense each DIMM can be. The motherboard manufacture can play a role in the maximum supported RAM by reducing the number of DIMMs to one, which is what Asus has done, or by the design of the PCB traces. I'm going to guess the limit of the motherboard is just 4GB. Did you try and use an 8GB DIMM?

Yes, if you only have one slot then you are stuck with a max of 4GB DDR3L-1333... make sure the SODIMM you want to use is the lower voltage type too. Should be easy to find in 1333 speed.
