I've got 3 windows PC in a small house on an Ethernet switch and Cat-5 everywhere. I then use an old LinkSys WRT54G router as a WAP for occasional laptop use. But it has weak spots in various spots due to walls

I just got an Android tablet and it -demands- reliable WiFi. So I need new WAP. Looking for total no frills functionality BUT more power. IOW: I don't need 'faster' but it has to have a powerful enough signal to go through brick walls. (Or make popcorn. :D  )

I've read about 'speed' and 'security' but frankly, what I care about is signal strength. Is this a metric that is measurable?

Recommendations? Preferably < $100

Can this be used as a WAP? My understanding is that some routers are tough to use as simple WAP? I don't want to give up my current 'real' router
