blew my 365w psu on my HP dc7600 minitower and need to find a replacement that will handle my Sapphire Radeon 5450 gpu without stressing the psu limitations, and hopefully play on or near ultra settings in WoW, like i said last one blew out on me. so i would prefer 500w or better please tell me what options i have so i can shop for it!

Get an antec VP-450 and an XFX450.

Brand is more important than wattage as it is indicative of quality.

Also a 5450 will barely run WoW at low settings and is worse than most CPUs integrated graphics.

EDIT: just looked up the PC in question. That thing is old and antiquated. it isn't worth putting ANY money into. It is time for a new computer.

Also if the PSU that fried was a low quality unit of the OEM unit from like 10 years ago, it is likely that it could have damaged the computer when it fried.

the computer booted just fine after the pop and shutdown except it wouldnt load bios before the beep code and shutdown checked the beep code and found that psu was the issue
of course there could be additional damage but in that case i will start purchasing for my full build and just use this old azz laptop until i can work it out

Get either of the PSUs I listed above. They are the best for your use for the money. Get theXFX550 if you REALLY want 500w.

What resolution is your monitor.

That is why you can play at good settings, because your resolution is so low. At 720p or higher you would be stuck at 30fps at low settings with that setup.

well there seems to be alot of room in my case couldn't i either build a glass case or try to squeeze a bigger psu in there? if i can make a bigger one fit will it run my puter or just fry my mobo?

wow so my crappy screen allows for better gameplay? thats awesome! btw its a sapphire and seems to be better than the regular 5450 gpu i think....
so the psu in the XFX450 case will fit that mobo and a later atx upgrade mobo? as long as i use the same gpu and screen i will be able to play then?

Yes, lower resolutions have less pixels which meas less to render for the GPU.

Brand doesn't matter. it still uses the same 5450 GPU chip all the others do. It is about the worse GPU you can currently buy. Modern integrated Graphics on CPUs are better than it.

YEah, that is because your CPU is like a decade old.

If you upgrade to something like a new i3 the graphics will be much more powerful as the 5450.

It is about equivalent o the older intel 3000 graphics but all the new i3,i5,i7 come with intel 4000 or better.

Unfortunately that card is worthless.

You will need new HDDs as your are probably IDE and you will need SATA drives.

seems i have the HP Compaq SOCKET 775 MOTHERBOARD 375376-001 380356-001 FOR DC7600 TOWER mobo for this tower case so there is tons of room for a bigger psu and possibly if i drilled new holes in the rear plate i could save money on a case for now and mount an ATX board?

You can only go to a Pentium D which will still not be enough for modern games and is not even worth upgrading.

If you can put $50 a week to put towards the computer, save for 3 months and build a $600 computer. You will be VERY happy with it.

I believe this is the answer here.

Don't spend a dime on that old computer.

ok that is the silliest thing i ever heard if i buy an i3 and THEN buy a mobo that works off of it then the computer is pretty much built at that point...either way i could put any setup i can make fit in my crappy dinosaur case....the equivalent of taking a He-man lunchbox to my job...either way it still holds lunch.

A good case is actually the base of a pc build in 2 very important ways. 1st off, Cooling. A gaming case will allow you to run much better and more equipment, and it will operate better, for longer. Air flow is very important for gaming PCs. If you don't have it, you will have problems. Think throttling etc, if not pure failure in a short amount of time. 2cnd, The size of your case limits what you can use for hardware, IE: I have an antec 900 and will have no problem fitting 3 6870s for 3 way crossfire. The smaller stock cases in many instances will not fit the larger gaming cards. Also consider water cooling, HDD bays, DVD\Blu ray drives etc. I actually plan to upgrade my case, mostly for aesthetics but also for usb 3.0 and other goodies that have come out since my case was made. You may be able to buy some internal parts first depending on space and temps, but definitely consider a new case. Don't get me wrong, I get the money issue, I am currently considering drilling my case to accommodate a second power supply.
