So I just installed a new 250GB SSD, set my SATA type to AHCI and installed Windows 7 without any problems.

I then wanted to install my old 1TB HDD and 40GB SSD for extra storage. Was planning on just hooking them up and going into Disk Management and formatting there, only one problem... they aren't showing up!

They show up in the BIOS, and when I open Intel Rapid Storage Technology program, they are listed there as well (I was using my old 40GB SSD as a cache drive). I'm thinking that might be where the problem is right? I just have no idea on how to fix it and get the option to format both those drives!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

What make and model are they?
Possible they are just bad...
Possible they are formatted wrong...should be NTFS normally
Can you put them on a different machine to see if they work?

Hey there, Kiel88!

I can suggest a couple of troubleshooting steps you can try:

First, go to Disk Management again and select "Rescan Disks", see if it's going to detect your HDD and SSD then.
If they show up, select "Initialize" and add partition.
If this doesn't work. as @argeru already suggested try them on a different system, preferably a desktop. If they show up there, you can perform the partitioning and formatting there and then try to get them recognized by your system.
If your system still doesn't recognize them, you might need to reseat your CMOS battery, this will reverse your BIOS settings to defaults. Here's a link that might help you perform this: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS
You might also have to check if you need to update the SATA drivers, you must be able to find those on your motherboard's website.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted!

Hey guys thanks for the advice, managed to figure out the problem.

As soon as I uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage Technology program, both drives popped up in Disk Management!! I was then able to format them without any problems!

Thanks again for your time :)

Hi again, Keil88!

Sounds like you needed updated Intel RST driver or Intel ACHI/RAID driver to work with you system. This is actually a common issue. I'm glad you managed to solve it! :)
Hope we helped though!
Happy computing! :bounce:
