I was thinking of buying an i7 4790k but i thought it's just a waste of money since the difference in performance is hardly noticeable. So I was wondering if Gigabyte's G1 Sniper z87 is a good choice to combo it in situations of me wanting to overclock it. And a last question is if overclocking this specific processor will reduce it's time lasting.

Yes, that is an excellent affordable motherboard for that CPU. As for your overclocking, as long as you watch your temperatures and cool it well, it will not reduce your lifespan on the cpu.

Overclocking alone doesn't make the CPU's life to degrade. "The Heat + Overclocking" (more voltage to the chip) does. It seems to be a good motherboard, but always see reviews of motherboard by AnandTech, Guru2d, Harcop, etc

The i7-4790K is a Haswell refresh processor. Z87 chipset boards are made for original Haswell processors.

Your Z87 board may only accept the i7-4790K after a BIOS update.

If that's the case you can't use the 97-4790K to the BIOS update and you get stuck.

Want to ensure you don't get that problem? Get a Z97 chipset board.

If you want that board you need to update the bios, you need another 1150 socket cpu that is already supported by the bios. Overclocking wont reduce the life of your chip if done right, excessive heat will

He said, he'll buy the i5-4690k instead of i7, because it's a waste of money for him.

If you overclock it, it'll reduce its life from say 15 years to 13.

4690K is still a haswell refresh chip

Try ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 per http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mainstream-gaming-z...

That was a MOBO I intended to use and the only actual reason I wanted to change to another one was the colour :p  And another question I have is.....What fan software does AsRock has ? I mean Asus has FanXpert and Gigabyte Smart Fan 2....AsRock ?

Devil's Canyon is the code-name for Haswell refresh chips, so that people don't have to confuse using the same "haswell" word for both.

So that means that I have to go for a z97 if i want to avoid any BIOS updates ?

Yes. The Z97 also supports 5th gen intel, so that you can upgrade your CPU in the future without changing the motherboard.

Not the best software I've seen about those sorts of things but I think it does it's job.
