I am working on a PC build and have done 70+ hours of research. I will use this PC for photo editing, gaming, (DayZ, Battlefield 4, GTA 5) and basic 3D modeling for work. I am finally satisfied with this build, what do you think?

1. GTX980 is not cost effective. GTX970 is better. GTX970 is only 10-15% weaker than GTX980 but waaayy cheaper.
2. Why do you even need 6 case fans?
3. Since the SLI scaling of 980s and 970s is good, I would pick a stronger PSU to support the SLI in the future.

Some questions for your consideration:

Why i7? If you are gaming only with normal desktop use then grab i5 4690k. Gran i7 if you are gaming and doing heavy graphics work etc.

1866MHz RAM with CAS 10. I would recommend 1866MHz RAM with CAS 9.

Only 256GB SSD? Believe me, you will run out of storage pretty soon than you even realize. Get 1TB HDD in addition to this SSD.

GTX 980 is a good choice.

Seasonic G 550W is a solid PSU. I would recommend you to have 600W PSU here for overclocking and headroom.

Cougar Vortex are good fans particularly from noise level. No LED fans there?

I chose an i7 4790k over an i5 4690k because I won't be doing extreme overclocks and 4.0 Ghz vs 3.50 Ghz is a no-brainer. I may overclock to 4.30 Ghz but I don't want to sacrifice the life of an expensive chip just because I wanted to save $90. The hyper-threading will help in the 3D modeling part of my work.

Having a better CAS sounds real nice but I was looking at this RAM because it has a low profile, yeah I guess that since the CPU cooler I am using doesn't hang over the RAM slots It wouldn't really matter. That was a big fear of mine back when I was looking at the Dark Rock 3. (It'd be horrible If I would have to roll with the stock cooler just because of incompatibility)

I already talked about the hard drive config.

Probably will upgrade to a 600 watt, I would like the bonus headroom.

I didn't want LED fans because I don't want this to look like a 16 year-olds build, I want to retain the nice looking sleek dark metal and light blue accents that I will add later.

First, sorry I did not really take into account your requirements fully. You are absolutely correct in selection of i7 for 3D Modeling and graphics work. Stick with it.

Second, Better grab Noctua NH-U14/12S. In this way you will have the option to mount the fan at any height that you want and can use high profile RAM. Read my PC specs in Signature. You will find Noctua cooler with Corsair high profile RAMs.

Third, for your need, you would need 16 GB RAM. I would recommend getting 2133MHz with CAS 9 if possible.

LED Fans are a nice way to add lighting effect not giving impression of 16 year-olds build. It is more sort of personal preference. Stick with 140mm fans where possible in Full Tower.

Good Luck.
