recently purchased a new 3 terabyte hard drive and I decided to install micosoft 10 technical preview on it. Well, I found out that you can't boot from a 3 tb hard drive using mbr which is the kind of bios I have, and have your computer recognize the entire hard drive.. After some investigation I found out that I could install a driver from Seagate that would allow me to boot from the drive by creating a virtual drive in another partition. My plan was to dual boot my computer with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 on it's own drive. So literally, the installation was incredibly fast and it seemed flawless.

And then, when I needed to reboot after kind of getting the feel of things, NOTHING!!!! And I mean, it brought me to the boot screen and then hung with an orange screen.

I went to the repair screen and literally tried every option with no luck. I then decided to install Windows 10 on one of my terabyte drives that had Windows 8.1 on it. I did the install over the top of Windows 8.1 because I needed my files. Much to my dismay, after a very slow install, Windows 10 would also not boot up after the installation on my one terabyte drive. Also I must point out that I have 4 hard drives in my case. In order to install any operating system, I have to unplug all of the drives. but the one that I'm installing Windows on. I didn't have to do this when I first got the computer and the change didn't bother me and I'm not sure what caused it (probably having numerous hard drives).

At this point I'm pretty frustrated . My next idea was to format one of my terabyte drives so I can do a clean install and install 8.1 in one partition and Windows 10 in another. Now here's where I get scared: I format the hard drive, install Windows 8.1 and UNBELIEVABLY, after doing updates when my computer restarts, all I get is a purple screen. Now I'm really worried. What is going on? I also notice that neither Windows 10 or Windows 8 recognized my sound card. And that is totally bizarre because I've installed 8.1 many times and I have never had to look for a driver! What is going on here? Please pass on any knowledge you have.

Thanks, Wendy

PS: My hard drives tested 100% healthy with 100% performance. I have 8 gigs of memory. And my computer has been booting triple plus hard drives up to now no problem. The hardware seems fine. It's actually as if Windows 10 wrote something to the bios that keeps my computer confused about where to find the boot manager. just kind of a weird impression I get. I'm probably completely off base, but I so hope that it isn't as serious as it feels. Any and all help appreciated.

You should do one of the following. Use a virtual software program such as VirtualBox or install W10 on a separate hard drive; by disconnecting your main OS HDD (or SSD) and replacing it with the spare drive (or a spare desktop/laptop that is capable of running W10). It's only a preview so it's expected there will be bugs and you might not be able to get a good installation so you don't want to mess up your last known good configuration.
