Just made a new build. Installed ASUS Z97-A motherboard w/ Intel 4690k.

Have Windows 7 on ISO, used rufus and Windows USB 7 Tool to make the USB bootable.

Connected it everything fine, went into BIOS and set my USB stick to first priority to boot.

Windows won't install.

Windows splash screen comes on for a second and "startup repair" comes on. Messed around with BIOS settings all night and gave up.

Read all similar threads on here and attempted their solutions to no success. Changed USB preference from 'partial' to 'full' initialization. Disabled fast boot. When I disabled my HD to try to load just from USB, it would just go back to the BIOS.

Anyone have a clue to what is going on?

turn off secure boot and turn on legacy boot devices. then under hard drives set the usb stick as boot device one.

Attempted that, no go.

Disabled the HD and goes straight to BIOS screen if I boot from USB.

using the usb 2.0 ports and made the usb stick from windows 7 iso tool??? the iso tool should have made it bootable.

Yes, made sure to use usb 2.0 port. Attempted both the windows 7 usb tool and rufus to make the usb bootable. Same effect. So far have tried to adjust the following settings in BIOS:

- Legacy Enabled
- Secure Boot Disabled/Enabled
- USB Partial Initialization => Full Initialization
- Fast Boot Disabled/Enabled
- xHCI Disabled/Enabled

If first boot is USB and second boot is HD, windows splash screen comes on for less than a second, it goes to autorepair and it isn't successful.

If first boot is USB and I disable HD, no windows splash screen, just goes straight to BIOS again.

BIOS reads the stick as UEFI. Don't have another compatible USB stick laying around. Guess I'll ask some friends.

on power up have you used f6 key to select the usb stick that way?? if not go into the bios and on the main scree nput the efi usb stick as first boot device.

Yup USB has been set as first boot device. Not sure what going through f6 will do but worth a shot.

F6 yielded no results.

So I have tried:

- Disable Fast Boot
- Enabled Legacy
- First Boot: USB Drive, in a USB 2.0 Slot
- Disabled Secure Boot
- Along with everything else mentioned previously

I feel like I'm out of options.

No avail. I'm going to wipe out the USB and redo the USB bootable device with rufus.

Redid the USB bootable device to read GPT this time too since ASUS z97-A is UEFI, and did the same thing. LeSigh....

You reset Bios to factory defaults and try to boot from USB. Another way i think, you create bootable Windows disk and try to load it.
check from manufacturer website, which is the latest bios version available to upgrade.

I got my USB to boot. The solution was odd. I booted the 32-bit version of Windows, the previous USB stick I was trying to boot was a 64-bit version. I'm not sure why the 64-bit wouldn't boot, as all my hardware should be compatible, but I guess I'll upgrade it afterward.
