Hi,

I've just finished a build using an i5 4690k (stock cooler) and GTX 970 inside a Fractal Node 304.

I'm not overclocking (or really planning to in the short term) but I'm a little concerned with the temperatures my CPU is running at. Idle it sits at 45-55 degrees C which isn't overly scary but under load in games it seems to peak at 99 degrees (that's Metro 2033, not even got to Last Light yet...).

I'm using MSI afterburner to test temps and while I've never actually seen temps that high when alt-tabbing out of games it tells me that the Max is 99.

Should I be concerned with those temps? I've not seen it run that high and could believe that afterburner is wrong but it seems to be reading GPU temps fine (max 79).

I'd been led to believe anything up to 80 is acceptable, anything much over that is worrying.

I had considered picking up a better cooler for the CPU given the small case, would that be a good plan?

Many thanks for your responses!

Re-apply thermal paste and reseat CPU heatsink then get a low profile CPU cooler to help with these temps.
