There is no other way. You really have to install the os on your ssd by removing your hard drive first and plug your ssd. then after installation, format your hard drive.

Thanks. So could i copy all of my programs on my hard drive on to another and then format the original and then re install the programs?

Hey there, WreckedR1234!

You can simply clone your current HDD onto your new SSD.
This is usually done through a cloning software like Acronis True Image for example: http://www.acronis.com/en-eu/
It basically gives you the option to choose what gets cloned and what doesn't.
However, my personal recommendation would be performing a clean fresh install of Windows on your SSD.
This way you will prevent the cloning of dump files, temp files, etc. which may affect the performance of your system at some point.

Hope this helped. :)

Yes, you can do this as well.
What @Cem Goker meant was that you need to remove your HDD when you install the OS on your SSD.

If you clone your OS, there's no need to purchase a new operating system.
Cloning your old HDD will basically copy/paste every file on it you've selected, including the OS itself.

You can also create an image of your original Windows installation yourself and then restore that image on the SSD. Or you can use the Acronis True Image software I mentioned above, which will make this system image for you and lead you through the whole process of cloning. :)

Hope this helped.
