Hi,

i recently bought Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 mobo, and now I have occasion to buy used Asus 990FX Sabertooth. The first one comes with 3 year guarantee, as it has been bought from the store. The second one has been used for 1,5 year and has no guarantee, as the person who sells it does not have invoice for it.

I know that the second one is far greater motherboard and normally there would be no topic which one to choose, but I am wondering if benefits of Sabertooth are worth resigning from the guarantee which I have for the first mobo?

The price for me is the same - I mean for my two weeks old M5A97 Evo 2.0 I am able to get from the aftermarket as much as I must pay for this Sabertooth.

Please advice, because I don't want to take decision based on emotions (Sabertooth looks really good - with both - parameters and design). Although my mobo is also not bad for my everyday use (gaming from time to time, small OC). Will I really notice the difference ater the change? I will appreciate some arguments.

Cheers

Don't buy a used Sabertooth , they are great boards , I own 2 of them , but they tend to have some issues.

The guy who sells it said that it worked in a graphical station 24/7 with 3 graphical cards rendering the graphic. Now he has finised the business and is selling the stuff. Is this good or bad recommendation?

What issues are you talking about?

I wouldn't buy a used one , the boards tend to have issues , go with the M5A97 EVO R.2.0 , it's a solid board that will handle mild overclocking with a decent cooler , and most of all a warranty.

I have just called the Asus support and they told me that in the case of Sabertooth the support is based on serial number and it has 5 years of warranty, so in fact there should be 3,5years more warranty for it. They said that invoice is not necessary.
Shall I still go for this M5A97 Evo R2.0 or get this Sabertooth? TO be honest you have little confused me with this issues of Sabertooth. Is this second board more issues free?

I have 2 REV 2 Sabertooth boards and 0 issues , but there are a lot of threads with all the Revisions.

I like the tooth better as long as you get the good warranty.

Hello again,

I decided to give a try to this marvelous Sabertooth board and I have ran it with the FX-8320 CPU.
I have one issue from the beggining - the sound issue. I mean after the instalation of the board (I used the same system - WIN7 64 - on which earlier was the M5A97 EVO R2.0 installed, and surprisingly it ran well). I have installed all the drivers and I have no sound :(
I have searched this and other forums for the answers and results that many people had this problem, but mostly they gave up and bought external card. Maybe You as an expert did have occassion to solve this problem?

What I have tried:
- reinstall audio drivers with new realtec or Asus drivers
- change the front panel in BIOS between HD and AC97

Any suggestions what to do more? The realtek panel shows that there are two digital ports, and this analog one (light green) is inactive and I cannot activate it!

I have 2+1 sound system, but it is connected only by one green plug.
