Hey Guys,
I was working on my build parts and I´ve decided to go with a i5-4590 and a R9 270 (Non-X version) (Gigabyte) and I´ve tried different PSU calculators and they all give me minimum PSU values around 400W (eXtreme PSU calculator at 100% load tells me I need atleast 400W) but the AMD and other sites like Gigabyte's own tell me I need 500W to run that GPU. My question is , will my build hang on or do I need a bigger wattage PSU ? (Its an 80 Plus White Corsair VS450W) Thanks!

More about : 270 450w psu

I would go with a 500W PSU just incase and also to leave some headroom for future upgrades even if you only needed a 400W PSU. I am building a PC soon using the R9 270 and I am using a 500W PSU for the build.

First of all for gaming you'd better go with FX6300 + 270X, or if you can add some money then buy 270x instead of 270 (with i5 you have chosen)! Second thing that a good 450W Psu like Seasonic 80+ Bronze/Silver/Gold would perform well with such build but not the VS series from Corssair. My suggestion is to change it! Seasonic is the way to go.

Well I am not upgrading it in the near future, its going to stay like this for about 2 or 3 years and in that time if I can afford to upgrade, I can also afford to buy a new PSU I guess. I was asking for now, can it hold?

It will but your PSU would be loaded at nearly 100% all of the time. And shortly it would "blow up" and you'll returt here for a suggestion of a new PSU (if not the whole build). Think about it mate. My strong suggestion is to upgrade PSU!

You didnt wrote in the topic what you would use pc for. For such things ofcourse Intel is better and more power efficient.

And about the PSU I already said that this PSU is really bad, its now even a CX-series which is also not quite good. Use your at own risk. Enough said.

Honestly, you'll probably be fine. I have an i5-4690 and a 7950 (comparable to R9 280) using a 660W seasonic and I pull about 270W max, 70W idle. Your R9 270 will pull even less, unless you have tons of fans and hard drives.
