Hello guys,

I finally decided to sell my 270x and upgrade to 970!

However now I don't know which one to buy. With AMD is simple Sapphier is the best espasially tri-x.

But here I can't decide between MSI, EVGA TWF and Asus, they are all greate and they all having COIL WHINE so don't really have a choice of avoiding it.

Anyway which one should I buy?

I like the style of MSI but I don't really like the future of not working fan untill reaching 50C. Also it is the fastest after OCing.

EVGA TWF is the fastest befor OC but not far from MSI after OC.

Asus is Asus good quality never in stock but not the fastest at all before and after OC.

So which would you buy?

Thanks

Gigabyte is just too big... Will be harder to sell than other 970s in future due to the size! MSI does not really have that great feedback on Newegg! Also that feature with fans under 50c? What do you think is it good?! Any other thoughts?

I wouldn't go with EVGA, they've been getting a bit of flack over some of their 970s. I've heard a lot of people having problems with coil wine with the 970s as you've noted. I've got a G1 and it doesn't have any problems but it's also a bit more expensive, my second choice would have been the MSI.

Newegg? I personally own the 980 Twin Frozr and it is a lot better then my old strix gtx 780s were impressive but after using Twin Frozr V I am supporting msi. Please don't fool yourself and get a Asus and just go for the new Twin Frozr.

I really like the look of MSI and OCing is really good on it but how about the fan future, under 50C fans don't work! Is it good or bad? Is it annoying?

And thank you all for fast replies!!!

It's alright, the GPU needs to be quite a bit hotter before it does any damage and it's going to be much quieter and use less power during idle. Seems like the opposite of annoying.

The fans not working under 50C is a good thing. It saves power and preserves the fan's lifespan.

If you don't like it that way you can just use MSI Afterburner to make it spin however you like.

Personally I'd buy from MSI or Asus.

TWF is MSI's cooler by the way. EVGA uses ACX. Also EVGA have made new revisions of their 970's to fix the misaligned heatsink issue.

Finally I have got a winer from all cards and I decided what card I am going to buy!!! Despite the fact that MSI has better performance than any other 970s and I really like how it looks like but unfortunately it has a coil whine pretty bad one and many people who bought this card were unhappy about it. Gigabyte G1 is a great card but too big for my case, looking for something smaller! EVGA is really good one as we'll but the style of it is just ok... So ASUS would be my choice for now and I would be more than happy to buy it right now but guess what, it out of stock :)

I am really confused again! I have seen a few videos on youtube with where asus has the same coil whine problem! also I found out that G1 Gigabyte is not too big for my case, newegg website says that it is 16 inch long but it's a box and the video card its self is 12 inch. My case has enough space for 14 inch long one so no problem with G1 now.

So there is a question what would you pick G1 or Asus despite the fact that in NZ G1 price is 690 NZD and Asus 730 NZD where on newegg website G1 370 USD and Asus is 350 USD! What would you buy in my case?

Thanks

I believe all the current 970s may have coil whine issues, possibly Asus and Gigabyte has lower chance to get hit. But it seems all 980s have no issues, so......
No matter what you get, don't be afraid to RMA a coil whine card. I already did once without any cost.

Ok, if not considering a coil whine problem which out of two would you pick? G1 vs Asus?
Thanks

I like Asus as we'll it is a well known company with high reputation, BUT Gigabyte gives 4-5 more fps if using 1080p monitor and the same performance for 1440p I don't know why...

I am going to use 1080p Monitor and in average I will benefit with gigabyte 4-5 FPS some people may say it is only 5 fps but difference between 970 and 980 is 10 fps when OC both so 5 fps isn't that small it's like 7% more!!!

Fan isn't a problem due to the 3 years warranty but Asus is nice and Gigabyte gives more performance plus it looks nice as we'll!

Anyone has other thoughts?

Get the Gigabyte G1. Uses binned chips. Helps to ensure you get a card that isn't unstable out of the box, and better OC potential.

I can confirm my Gigabyte has no coil whine, but that is just luck of the draw. I'd still go for MSI if G1 is too big. Or Asus. Whichever comes in stock first. Both are solid cards. Just avoid the EVGA for now, unless they can put out a better quality cooler. I would avoid blower style PNY, but that is just my preference.
the Zotac Amp or whatever it is called this year looks pretty cool, but may be too big and is the most expensive.

I just found an article where asus and msi were destroyed by G1 mostly in everything!!!

http://www.overclock.net/t/1516121/gtx-970-comparison-s...

So I guess now it is all about Asus with a good reputation and G1 with higher clock and better cooling solution!
Also G1 has a double bios where Asus doesn't!

I still don't have any idea what I am going to buy but I have two weeks so I will let you know later.

Thank you all!!!

True, dual bios is a bit useless... Asus is a greate card and what I am trying is to get the best performance out of my money!!! G1 in NZ is 50$ usd cheaper but in USA G1 is more expensive so I am trying to find out whether should I pay extra 50$ for Asus! Does it worth it?

My vote is for the Asus for all the reasons mentioned previously and also $40 more is nothing to worry about when you're spending $700 on a card but my question is why are you buying a 970 when you are only gaming at 1080p? What is it you can't run?

My r9 270x can run everything but I am looking to buy 144hz monitor with g-sync so that's why I am looking for a new Nvidia Video card!

We are poor people because most of us already have everything that is need but we always looking for something better because there is never enough!

Also I don't know what else can I buy for my bd...

I finally decided for my self that Gigabyte G1 is the best gtx 970!!! It can be overclokced to 1591 where Asus is stable at 1501 only... Also it has the best cooling system out of all 970. So G1 is the winner for me!

Lol...on newegg website says that the card is 16inch long and It would be too big for my case! But it is the size of the box and the card it self is about 13inch and it is going feet in my case!!!
