You can just turn off the wireless adapter in Device Manager. The system won't have much choice anymore after that.

IEEE is not the wired network connection, you are probably talking about the IEEE 1394 which is FireWire.
Look in device manager and see if the network card is there and listed with no errors. You may need to install the drivers.
