Hey,

I am upgrading my PC after 8 months of having it (I know my current build is fine but I want to upgrade).

Current Build:

AMD FX 8350 @4Ghz
Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler
AsRock 970 Extreme3 Motherboard
8GB G.Skill Ripjaws RAM
750W power supply
XFX R9 280x GPU

Upgraded Build:
Intel i7 4770k @ 3.5Ghz may OC
Corsair H100i water cooler
motherboard can't remember what haha
XFX R9 280x
750W power supply
clkvpz'fggcgvhh8GB G.skill ripjaws RAM

What FPS would I get in games like;

minecraft
battlefield
cod
watch dogs
fifa
other games etc xD

I run games at 1080p on one monitor!

You will get pretty much the same performance as you are getting now with minimal improvements. Why are you not upgrading your GPU?

Get a more wattage PSU and maybe another R9 280X then crossfire , that's a decent upgrade .

While the 8350 might not be the best processor out there , there's not reason to upgrade it right now.

Yep, 280X would be the bottleneck for gaming, it isn't much of one, but still going to be the limit in games.

You will be able to get a decent overclock with an h100i, but some first release haswell chips are just not that good (like mine). I suggest the i7-4790k if you are building today.

That's a lot of money to spend for not a lot of return. A 980, in a couple months when Ti/tested aftermarket cooling solutions are prevalent on the market, or R290x OC as you prefer, or even waiting until next fall when some new gen stuff emerges, is better bang for buck. And would give you more performance than your current planned upgrade. (arguably a side grade)

Unless the money doesn't matter to you? In that case go latest I7 with ddr4 ram, etc. But even there I would give that 6 months to evolve and come down a bit in price.

This will be for around Christmas anyway. AMD FX 8350 apparently not as good for gaming and it also uses more wattage and i am getting problems with my PC and ppl are saying its the CPU thermal throttling and I have tried everything but still not fixed.

I was told by someone else a while back that the AMD FX 8350 was bottlenecking my graphics card, also my graphics card is fine. Just apparently I have thermal throttling and my fps is lower than it should be and every now and then my cores go from 4Ghz to 1.3Ghz for around 5 seconds and then go back up, also I can't record because of this and I do YouTube so this has affected me badly. I am going to take CPU Cooler out and reapply thermal paste and see if that works but if not it may have to be an upgrade as my fps goes down from over 100 to around 40 and when recording it goes down from 60 to 20 so it is unplayable.

An I5 would be enough honestly and I'm not really aure why you want to upgrade too :)  Your FX 8350 is perfectly fine. If I were to upgrade I would rather get something like a GTX 970 if I were you.

FX 8350 is alright but at the moment it is throttling, turned APM off in bios and using high performance power plan at 99% minimum and 100% maximum and all cores run at 3990.34MHz except core 0 or Freq #0 which every 5 seconds or so drops down to 1396.62MHz and throttles my fps. Any idea on how to fix this. I'm going to install some fans over the top of the cpu to cool it but this is doing this while in idle or browsing the internet when my CPU is 20 degrees-30 degrees. Its annoying as it lags the crap out of my games.

I disabled core parking on my 8350. I don't think I've ever seen a core(s) used by a given game ever throttle back. However cores running other things that don't do stuff all the time will drop back.

It hasn't throttled now in some games such as minecraft, watch dogs and bo2 but need to see about FIFA and other games. Also if i was gonna upgrade graphics card it would be to an nvidea card but I would want an intel CPU as they are the better pair.

The rumor that an Intel CPU works better with a Nvidia CPU is false. Only the fact that Intel is faster is true. An FX 8350 would go nicely with a GTX 970 honestly.

I've decided to upgrade to an Intel I7 4770k or a I7 4790k probs 4770k though at Christmas unless anything much better is out by then, I am then also going to get a £100 ish motherboard any recommendations would be great! And I am also going to get a Corsair H100i water cooler. Should come to around £450 in total.

I'd get I5-4690K and add in a second R9 280x :)

I am gonna upgrade in April to an nvidea card so I can use Shadowplay for youtube videos. And the i7 4770k will be better at rendering and editing my videos faster.

Well, unless there's more than a 30 pound difference you might as well get the I7-4790k instead. It runs a whole 0.5ghz faster and stays slightly cooler too.

hmm apparently its just a 4770k pushed a bit more similar to fx 8320 and fx 8350. will probs get 4790k then think its £20 more.
