I have a dual booted System that runs Windows XP (which I need to run specific software) alongside my Ubuntu 14.04. My windows installation cannot connect to the internet although Ubuntu on the same machine does. what do I need to do to change the Windows XP settings to enable it to go on line or join my ubuntu network

Hi Thank you, this is more or less what Ms XP tells one to do, but it doesn't work, I know that the computer is physically connected to my router by cable as the Ubuntu 14.04 installation is on the same hardware and connects perfectly (otherwise I wouldn't be able to contact you). But for some reason Windows XP claims there is no Internet connection. and doesn't permit any changes to be made, that I can see.

Thank you I understand that, what do I need to do to obtain network drivers for windows that will work with Ubuntu. I can't download drivers from windows but I could download them from Ubuntu put them on to a USB stick and transfer them that way.

1. Determine the make and model of your motherboard;
2. Go to the website for your motherbard maker;
3. Find the download area (usually in the support area);
4. Find the windows xp driver downloads for your motherboard - make sure you get the ones noted as 32 bit;
5. Download the LAN and wireless drivers;
6. Put those on a thumb drive and reboot into xp;
7. Install the drivers;
8. Set up network connrction per xp instructions.
