Hi, I was just wondering if you could plug in two different type (series) of ddr3 ram, or even just buying 2 2x8GB RAM sticks of the same company/ series. IE. Two orders of 8GB (2x 4GB) G.Skill RIPJAWS DDR3-1600-PC3-12800

Always purchase your ram in identical sets at the same time.

It's a crapshoot. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

You can maximize the chances of the RAM playing nice together by using RAM rated for the same speed and latency. Using the same brand also helps. In the end you're always better off by using one set that tested together by the manufacturer.

The paired set of 2X8GB sticks is tested and garuanteed to work together, there's no such garuantee with 2 non-pairs, even if they're the exact same model.
