Hi,

I have purchased a Kingston V300 120GB. The Model Number is 527ABBF0. I have heard that Kingston replaced the NAND with a poorer version of them and people are experiencing issues with the 506 Model therefore I am asking if I will experience these "Slow" problems with the 527ABBF0. I purchased this but have not received it yet therefore I cannot test it. I havent heard of people having issues with the 527 model therefore I am curious.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank You.

The V300 is one of the slowest SSDs. Here's an article about them.

http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Kingston-SSDNow-V300-120GB...

Seems the new firmware 541ABBF0, has a slight speed advantage.

EDIT:
If your ssd does not have the latest firmware, you can update it. Should do this before you install windows as updating ssd firmware deletes everything on the ssd.

Before buying the 120GB I had a 64GB model however I then realised over time that I needed more space therefore I went ahead to purchase the 120GB. Is the 120GB the same performance or more performance than the 64GB? I want an overall increase of performance just like when I had the 64GB. I was happy with the 64GB however the storage space wasnt enough.

It might be a little faster because the larger SSD's usually are faster. I doubt that it will be much faster. Like I said, update the firmware when you get the ssd if it isn't the latest version. That should help some too. Kingston has a tool on their web site to check and update.

Newegg has the 120gb Samsung 840 Evo on shellshocker today for $69.99 shipped. Why bother even looking at the v300.

I received the 120GB SSD today and to be honest, im impressed. There where thoughts going around that the speed is slow etc however my applications etc are running extremely fast therefore I am happy. I have it set up to SATA 2 because my motherboard only supports SATA 2 however I am getting read speeds of around 136MB/s which is not bad.

I just checked the price for the Samsung SSD and newegg is telling me its around $109.99.

Thank you all for your kind replies!

Yeah, Shell shocker deals are only for 1 day or sold out, whichever comes first. Was an awesome deal though; sorry you didnt see it in time.

You might have wanted to mention sata2 to begin with. LoL. You'd never see the full speed of the samsung but you would be in the upper 230's for speed.
Also the main advantage of an ssd is the random read and write speeds of which the v300 is still way better than a harddrive.
