gpu keeps overheating

ive opened my pc, 3 times now and replaced the thermal paste 3 times and at first it will idle at 44c. once i load the game, itll jump up to 70-80c.. 88c was the highest it went then the game crashed. why does it keep overheating? check the pics, at first it shows 44c with no game running, then while ingame its at 85c then 88c.

the old cards run hot. also in newer games you can be stressing the card out over it limit. try running msi afterburner make sure the fan set to 100 percent at 50c. make sure you hear the gpu fan spin up. if not it time to replace the fan or gpu from age.
