Dear all,

My query is two-fold, one hardware/testing related and the other oriented to how to deal with the returns process at a political level.

I have a Palit Super Jetstream 3GB GTX780, and it is the cause of some hard resets I've been having. I have tested the card in 2 completely independent machines at with different specs running on different hard disks with different operating systems, and have tested both machines separately with my old Radeon 5870 with no crashes.

The crashes can be reproduced best in Flatout 3, which I was recently gifted. The temperatures stay very reasonable (55-60 absolute max), and the CPU is always under fairly low load. Within 1 lap of flatout 3 under any graphics settings (even underclocked with MSI Afterburner), I will get a hard reset with a fraction of a second prior to this seeing some magenta lines/graphical glitches on the screen.
I also get the crash on some NS2 maps, and when playing Gauntlet, but these can take up to 20 minutes to materialise, rather than within 2 minutes of flatout 3.

The rest of the system is working fine (for both machines) and the power supplies are also fine. I can run Batman Arkham Asylum on full graphics settings at 1080p without error (and with good framerates), and I can run furmark, heaven/valley and a youtube HD vid simultaneously with no crashes. Temps go no higher than 75 when doing this.

I'm confused why the crashes only seem to occur under certain fairly low stress situations (flatout 3 is not stressing the card much at all, same for gauntlet), so I suspected that the graphics card memory might be at fault but haven't been able to test this (I tried VMT briefly but could only test 1GB of the 3GB on board - didn't try tinkering as I ran out of time).

I have tried 3 different PSUs with precisely the same results for each, 2 were Corsair RM550s and 1 was a Tagan 800W unit. The two different comps have the following specs:

Machine 1
Intel i5 4760K
16GB Team vulcan DDR3 RAM
Samsung 840 EVO 256GB SSD
Windows 7 home 64bit
(tested with 3 separate PSUs)

Machine 2
Intel i7 860
8GB Patriot DDR2 RAM
Patriot M5 Pro 512GB SSD (OS)
WD Red 3.0TB HDD (storage only)
Windows 7 professional 64bit
(tested with RM550 and Tagan 800W PSUs)

Can anyone recommend any further tests to help try to pin down the problem?

The second part of my query is handling the return. I have alerted the supplier to the problem and asked for their advice and to RMA it. They responded asking if I had Battlefield 4 or Skyrim to test the game on. I don't have skyrim, and while I technically have BF4 I: a) hate origin so don't have it installed and b) am having to use a VPN this week as I'm away from home and need to circumvent a work firewall - this means I'm very limited on download bandwidth and cannot reasonably install BF4 to test it - there's also limited chance that it will crash in this game as the crashes aren't obviously connected to the intensity of the graphics load.

I don't have many games installed right now, but have found 3 games in which I can reproduce the crash independently on both computers. The supplier doesn't have any of these games to test the card on when it's sent back so keeps asking me to test new games/benchmarks - and every time they ask this, I have to reinstall the card (uninstalling the radeon which I need to play NS2 competitively in the mean time) - it's getting to be a royal faff and most frustrating.
I've expressed my frustration (politely) to the company, having agreed to test 3dmark tonight and get back to them. My concern is that I won't get it to crash in any of the games/benchmarks that they happen to have, and this will cause a stalemate. It's taking forever and I kind of feel that they should just take the card back and sort it out, rather than relying on me to spend hours upon hours to find a condition to reproduce the fault that's compatible with what they have available - given that I have already got a reproducible condition sorted out and have told them what it is...

Has anyone been in this situation and how did you handle it?

Sorry for the massive wall of text, and thanks in advance for any and all help!
