Hey there, Yosimite!
As @popatim already mentioned, it really depends on how you did your backup.
Since you own a WD My Passport, I'd guess you've been using the SmartWare software.
If so, I'd suggest you take a look at this link:

It will walk you through the steps how to retrieve a backup using WD SmartWare.
If you've backed up your data in another way, let us know!
