I brought a gaming desktop and now am looking to get a better GPU so that I can get my game settings into the high marks

I have a:

AMD FX 4300 Quad-Core 3.8GHz
8GB Ram
MSI GeForce GT 730
350W Power Supply
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Motherboard

I know that I'll need a GTX model for better gaming performance and was looking into the 700 series

More about : upgrading gpu

GTX 750 Ti is the highest you can squeeze in the build w/o changing the PSU, its a great value for money and performance wise its a sweet GPU.

That is completely wrong. Who told you that??:pfff:

What is your budget and needs (resolution, games you play, desired fps etc). Also, what PSU do you have - very important for high end GPUs??

Yes thats right, but what about AMD cards such as the R7 260 or 260x?

350W can not really take the R7 260 or 260X. GTX 750 or the Ti version will be the max I'd look at w/o changing the PSU.

I've had Nvidia cards since I started gaming and have researched the crap out of them...I don't know much about Radeon

EVGA's 750Ti FTW is the 2nd highest clocked 750ti out there (And its on sale!) and you wont have to upgrade your PSU. I have one in my mini-itx system paired with a i5 4590 and I run BF4 on ultra @1080P running at least 40 FPS to give you an idea on how good the card is.

***Update- 2nd fasted 750ti next to the Gigabyte 750 ti (But still the evga is significantly cheaper)***

So what PSU Watts would you recommend for my computer?

Yes I meant in general, in terms of AMD cards against the 750ti.

At Least a good quality 500W to be able to run most cards.

I'd for a 500W or higher PSU, like XFX Pro 550W, and get a R9 270X or 280 for GPU upgrade, not much bottlenecks and good performance boost compared to 750 Ti as well. Will most likely push your spending to $200+ range though.

Not the best PSU on the market but I think it should be fine if you aren't overclocking.

1+ tambeshakunt
defiantly go with an AMD card. the newest cards AMD has to offer (especially "budget ones") are very very good. just make sure you're not getting a bottleneck out of that CPU. i might even go with the 270 instead of the 270x just to be safe.

270x with the fx4300 just should be ok.

FX 4300 ~ Athlon x4 ~ Pentium, and unless we go over R9 280 or GTX 760, it won't be any visible bottleneck.

There's no 3 or 4GB versions, and the card is not powerful enough to utilize the extra memory in first place.

Yeah, not this one but here's other kinds with 3GB or 4GB Is it worth it to look for one with more memory?

R9 280 for eg has 3GB VRAM which's useful in many titles Skyrim, BF4, Crysis 3, and is only good if GPU is powerful enough, the 4GB versions of 270X are no better than 2GB as the card is not powerful enough.

Only gtx 780 is the card with 3gb of memory by default which it can utilize. But it's an old card, gtx 970 is the one with 4gb of memory.
