I am planning on ordering a new sound card for my system but it requires a 6 pin to work. I have a spare 6-pin on my power supply but no 6-pin cable so i am planning on using the 2x molex-6 pin that comes with the card to power it (and i already have 1 spare molex so ill be using just the one molex.

Will this work?

I am using a silver power 650m and ill be borrowing the 4 pin-double molex from a cooler master v850

Theoretically, a single molex plug can handle 132 watts, which would be enough.

In practice, is this a good idea? No.

You would do much better to just get the right part.

Oh man, I read that as Silverstone, my mistake.

Does that PSU have a specific model number on it? Not 100% sure, but it looks like it may be made by Seasonic, in which case you're really in luck:

What's the deal with the Cooler Master V? That's also a very good PSU. If you're not using that in another system, it ought to be more than capable of doing the job in this one.

yea its made by sea sonic it seems ( "Silver Power SP-S650 is OEM from Seasonic!" ... found on a electronics webpage...)

but yea about the cooler master psu i just meant that a friend said that i could have it if i needed it and i just wanted to make sure that they would work...
i've read some horror stories on the web about what has happened with other people :p

Cooler Master PSUs by and large are not great quality, they are all over the map. The V series is the exception; they are rated top of the line.

Whichever way you go - either getting a spare cable for the Seasonic or just plugging in the Cooler Master unit, you should be fine. Either one would be better than trying to drag that much power out of a single molex.
