Ok so i'm wanting to upgrade my pc from a r7 265 to something a bit more future proof. I'm debating on getting a new msi gaming edition 970 or an asus 780, but the 780 would come in at around $290 after rebate and it also comes with the new borderlands game which I plan on buying, essentially making it "cost" me 230 dollars (assuming i spend 60 on Borderlands if it weren't included) what should I do? My system currently has an fx-6300 for cpu but im planning a massive overhaul (probably switching to an i5) in the near future.

Price/Performance, GTX 970 is KILLING it. Overall performance, GTX 970 is KILLING it. Go 970.

But would it be worth the additional 100$ in theoretical price

go with the 780. the perf difference might look good on paper but is arguably negligible whilst playing. plus the free bordelands tps puts the icing on the cake.

I was debating between these two cards and I am going to pay a little more for the superior 970, even with the price difference and wanting the game bundled with the 780 I think I would still go for the 970 for the performance increase.

So you think it would be worth 100 for the difference, also how much would a fx 6300 bottleneck it

no gpu is ever worth the $100 difference (that was assuming you'll buy borderlands, right?) especially if were just talking about 5~10fps difference in games that they are both performing great already. it is, however, worth it if you are looking at the extras that the 970 brings to the table such as DSR and MFAA + lower TDP and more vram.

I used to have a gtx 780 and upgraded to 970 and I love it! I recommend the gtx 970 but it's up to you honestly
