I am building a new x99 based system and I had it posting into the BIOS with just the minimal hardware.
Asus X99-A MB, i7 5820, Corsair HX750i P/S, Corsair H100i W/C, Corsair 2133 Ram, Samsung EVO 250 SSD, GeForce GTX 770
The I went to connect my USB 3.0/Card Reader to the usb3_12 connector. and it stopped booting QCode stays at 0, and the CPU led stays lit.
After powering it down (had to use the switch on the power supply) and unplugging the P/S
I discovered that I had bent/shorted out the pins on the connector, Turns out that the IntA_P1_SSRX- pin had broken off, and shorted one or more of the other pins.
My ultimate question is did I fry both the MB and the CPU (5820).
I read in a few other threads that there is some type of soft fuse that is supposed to protect the MB from USB 3.0 shorts, but so far i have had no luck in getting the system to post.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I think it may just be the motherboard damaged. A high end ASUS board probably has built in protection for this to avoid CPU and other component damage.
Remove the battery and try separating any shorted pins. Wait 5 mins , reinstall battery and see if it posts. If not, get in contact with ASUS and see what best they can do....they might even offer a paid testing/repair service.

I doubt your CPU would be damaged.
