Hi guys, I have a question. My old Hitachi hard drive is good yet, but it have only 150 gigabytes of storage space. I don't have films (I just don't need it), bazillionbytes of music collection or over9000 games on my drive. But now some games require 50! gb! of HDD space! Not so long ago I thought that 20-25 gb for game is too much, but it's 2014 year now, so..
I think I should buy new hard drive, but should I replace my old drive with new one for speed improvement (my old drive is Hitachi HDS721616PLA380 (160Gb, SATA300, 3.5", 7200RPM, 7mb cache), or just put a drive for content-space and leave my Windows working on Hitachi? I don't want to reinstall my W7 Ultimate because of good work for a few years and a lot of user settings that I don't want to lose. Will I notice changes in gaming (better loading speed or FPS)? Is there any noticeable difference between *windows on old hdd but games on new* and *windows and games on new hdd*? Please tell me your thoughts.

Just add a new drive. You'll not notice any difference with a game installed on a different drive than the OS.

If you had really old drive you would notice a difference.

Since you have a sata 7200rpm drive you will not notice a speed difference.

Thre is what is called SSD drives that do offer a very big speed improvement in bootup and file access speeds. They do nothing though to help FPS in games. At that point durring game play the game is all in your RAM memory chips.

Either way you can use hard drive clone programs to copy your old hard drive a new drive or ssd drive.

If you want to keep your hitachi you can always just buy a new magnetic HDD and leave your hitachi in place and just install any new games to the new drive wihtout having to mess with the exsisiting drive.
