Hi,
I'm looking to build a office PC for my parents. They want it to look good - as small as possible and with the least cables and clutter as possible. I have decided to go with a mini-itx build.
Location: Vancouver, Canada. Looking to spend: ~$550 Canadian dollars including mouse and keyboard; not including OS.

After a ton of searching, these are the few cases I have narrowed down to (ranked):
1. Apex MI-008 w/ 250w psu - $55.67 CAD @ DirectCanada
-dimensions: 299mm x 220mm x 129mm

2. Silverstone ML05B (HTPC Case) no psu - $49.99 CAD @ Memory Express
-350 x 99 x 204 mm (smallest)

3. Rosewill RS-MI-01 BK w/ 250w psu - $69.98 CAD @ Newegg.ca
-330mm x 220mm x 129mm

4. Inwin BP655.FH200B w/200w psu - $68.31 CAD @ CanadaComputers
-309mm x 264mm x 99mm

Questions:

The Apex, Rosewill, and inwin cases have very small cpu heatsink clearances. I haven't found any cheap >$25 heatsink with 30mm height. What heatsink can I use?

Does my build look ok?

Which case would you recommend?

since its only doing office work and not gaming the stock cooler will be fine for it.

That CPU does come with the stock cooler as it is retail. Those are built to handle the processor. As long as you dont push the CPU hard or OC it you will be fine.

BUT, if you wanted one to be safe. This should work.

For general office work an i3 would be a better choice.

And the stock cooler will be fine as well, as long they don't have a cat that sleeps on top of the computer filling it up with cat hair and dust, ect.

Something like this should be fine, and quiet, and will respond quickly:

They don't need 8GBs for web browsing.
The Coolermaster is pretty tiny, but if you want my suggestion from your initial picks i'd go with the Silverstone ML05b

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think the stock cpu cooler will fit into the 3 cases. For the Apex mi 008, the reviews say
"Stock intel heat sink will NOT fit. Its about 4mm too tall. Wish I'd known that before purchase (my own fault). Still I don't know why they couldn't make it tall enough to fit stock heat sinks."
and "Space constraints: Low profile RAM (<3cm), CPU cooler (<37mm), "
I believe that the stock heatsink is 46mm high, so it probably won't fit.

I have moved the silverstone ML05B to my 1st choice (it's also the smallest, which is good). I also really like the Apex Mi-008. Is it good (if I end up not getting the silverstone)?

I'm planning to keep it for many years (at least <4 years or more with upgrades). Which part is weak/would be upgraded first, and are any parts greatly overkill?

There are no reviews on the MSI H81I mobo. Is the motherboard good?

I actually have that exact board and i'm pretty satisfied with it, only had for about 2 months but it's been working fine for me, and even slightly better than my ASRock Z87E-ITX. (mainly just more agreeable, i like the msi's bios a bit more)

Thanks everybody!!! I'll probably stick with that build consisting of the i3 and silverstone case.
